ATHALASSA / Fiction (25 min)

Director, Screenwriter

Cyprus, 1936. In the midst of a raging tuberculosis epidemic, a young local doctor breaks protocol and admits a dying patient to the island’s only sanatorium. His decision ties the two men’s fates together, with unintended consequences for both.

The film is based on a short story-memoir by the pioneer Cypriot pulmonologist, Dr. Takis Evangelides, who was instrumental in combating tuberculosis in Cyprus in the early 20th century, when the island was still a British colony.
